A pair of Italian-built, roll-on/roll-off passenger ferries has been retrofitted in Spain with new Highlander voyage data recorders (VDRs).  The two ferries, Sicilia and Napoles, are on a long-term charter to the large Spanish ferry operator Balearia, and are a vital part of its Mediterranean network.  Both of the vessels connect the Balearic Island ports of Ibiza, Mallorca and Menorca with the mainland ports of Valencia, Dénia and Barcelona, ferrying cars, trucks and passengers to and fro.

The new VDRs replaced the ones originally installed when the ships were built fourteen years ago.  These were disconnected, removed and replaced with state-of-the-art Highlander HLD VDR-600 triple-storage recording systems.
